The People’s Blues of Richmond is a crazy three-piece psychedelic, rock/funk group from Richmond, Va. They have two fantastic albums out and a 4 year history that’ll make your jaw drop when you consider that these boys have built from the ground up with no manager or agent. It started with Tim Beavers (Jazz trained, Blues enthusiast and rock n’ roll die-hard) on guitar, Matt Volkes (Classically trained, raised on Blues, Jam/Funk force of nature) on Bass, and Raphael Katchinoff (Local Surf-Psych legend who earned his stripes with future members of Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe and The Congress). They quickly covered the East Coast – from Burlington, VT to New Orleans, LA – putting together over 120 songs, a loyal fan-base, and a heavy blues/rock album called ‘Hard-On Blues’. They picked up keyboard player Tommy Booker (Classically trained, Jazz lover and Music Production graduate) in New York City for gigs and recording and made him a more permanent fixture when he moved to Richmond. When Tim graduated college it looked like everyone had an open schedule for tour, but Raph and Tommy’s other band started picking up more gigs and it became clear that a change was occurring.
Returning to their 3-piece roots, they picked up a new drummer, Nekoro Williams (Gospel trained, Jazz, Funk, Rock n’ Roll loving son of Drummie Zeb- drummer for The Wailers). They put out a new album called ‘Good Time Suicide’ which is still snowballing praise as they showboat it across the country. With a new line-up, new material, a new van, and new merchandise, PBR is taking off like never before; maturing into a full-time job for our boys and a sinful delight for their growing fan-base.
They’ve played with bands like Galactic, Flogging Molly, Kung Fu, Keller Williams, Yonder Mountain String Band, Carl Denson, DJ Williams, Zoso, Zoogma, EOTO, Toubab Krewe, Kyle Hollingsworth, and Ghostland Observatory. They’ve consistently played large venues and outdoor events like The National(RVA), The Hamilton(D.C.), The Opera House (WVa), Smith’s Olde Bar(Atl.), 8×10(Balt.), Black Cat(D.C.), Richmond Coliseum, The Diamond(RVA), Camp Barefoot and The Big Up. PBR is on the rise, starving for more, and nowhere near finished.Returning to their 3-piece roots, they picked up a new drummer, Nekoro Williams (Gospel trained, Jazz, Funk, Rock n’ Roll loving son of Drummie Zeb- drummer for The Wailers).
